Plane Trip

My trip over to Spain was ridiculously long winded. As in if you're traveling to Spain or Europe for that matter, don't do this:

Granted I had to do somethings because I had to meet up with and travel as a group with a bunch of high school students. Since I'm from San Antonio, I flew from San Antonio to Houston then to Newark then to Boston. What a crazy amount of connections! Boston was the meeting place for the SYA kids and I was so fed up with airplanes by the time I got there and if it weren't for the fact that I was heading towards Spain on the next trip I would have been in a bad mood. The meeting was great and all: a bunch of strangers and their parents (most kid's parents went with them to the meeting) feeling a bit awkward. Parents were so ancy and nervous to be leaving their kids for an entire year that they just laughed way too much and hugged their kids way too much and shook way to many hands all the while thinking "What the hell am I doing?" After the meeting we boarded the plane, BUT WE WEREN'T HEADING TOWARDS SPAIN. Zaragoza has a wonderful airport, Madrid has an excellent airport. Both international but for some reason we were flying towards Paris. After hours of waiting in Paris we flew to Madrid. After Madrid we took a 6 hour bus ride to Zaragoza. Such an indirect way to get there really. And I was absolutely exhausted because of it. I mean I had been wearing the same frickin clothes for more than 48 hours. At the point that I met my host dad in Zaragoza all I wanted was for him to lead me to a hot shower.

Lesson Learned #1: When a city has an international airport or a city close by to your destination has an international airport, FLY TO IT DIRECTLY.

All said and done, despite the fact I could get no sleep on the airplanes, they were pretty fun trips and I made a lot of friends.

Who am I?

The name is Richard Davila. I'm just a teenager that loves to explore, make music, read, and have fun. I voted for Obama.

I go to school at Saint Mary's Hall, a small private school in San Antonio, Texas. My school and Mr. Alvarez have given me the opportunity to study in a foreign country for senior year. I chose Spain because I have a deep desire to learn Spanish. The Spanish culture is in my blood as my ancestors came from Spain to live in Mexico where I have lots of family.

If you're worried about me being a timid, picky, and unwilling to say "yes" kind of person because you want to hear a first hand account of everything in Spain. No worries. I'll talk about Spanish food, bulls, fiestas, teenagers, discotecas, bars, restaurants, fashion, politics, women, men and everything in between. I'll get this blog started up in no time. Cheers.
